When something is good you want others to know about it.
"When we heard that our 12 year old son would need to have 4 teeth taken out before starting his brace treatment we didn’t think too much about it. However as the time drew closer for him to have the teeth out he became very nervous, and had conversations with other children whose experiences were less than happy. The prospect of the two scheduled visits to the dentist were becoming very daunting.
We talked to our dentist, who was very understanding, and recommended that we should contact Tim Milton at the Bath Oral Surgery Clinic with a view to our son having the extractions done under intravenous sedation. We contacted Tim who fitted us in very quickly for a consultation and we went along to meet him and discuss the proposed procedure. Tim was great with Thomas. He talked him (us) through the whole procedure in detail, explaining really clearly to him how he would feel and what to expect. When we left having made an appointment for the following week Thomas felt completely confident – all his nerves had disappeared.
When we arrived the next week, we were greeted by the lovely nurse receptionist who immediately made us both feel at ease. At this point I was probably much more nervous than my son, so was pleased when I was invited in to observe the whole procedure. The level of care that Thomas received was wonderful to see. The sedative was given slowly and carefully until it was sufficient for the local anaesthetic to be given. He had all four of the teeth taken out, and was blissfully unaware of what was going on, even though he was clearly conscious.
Tim and both of his nurses were so kind, and very gentle throughout. The actual extractions were so skilfully done by Tim that it was all over in seconds. We had clear instructions regarding aftercare which we followed to the letter, and after a good night’s sleep he couldn’t really remember anything except the journey home. Thomas healed in a few days, and was delighted to show his molars off at school!
We are so grateful to Tim and his nurses for their excellent care. They turned a potentially traumatic time around for us, and we can wholeheartedly recommend this type of treatment for children of our son’s age. Definitely made the right decision!"

"My dentist recently suggested that an apicectomy was necessary on one of my front teeth and referred me to Bristol Dental Hospital. The consultant I saw there was not at all hopeful that the procedure would be successful and I was told that my only other option would be to have the tooth removed.
My dentist remained optimistic that I should be able to keep my tooth and so referred me to Tim Milton for a second opinion. I am so glad that I went to see Tim for a consultation! After an examination, Tim explained the procedure and was hopeful of success. As I am extremely nervous when having any dental treatment, I opted for intravenous sedation for the procedure – which worked brilliantly for me. I was completely unaware of the work being done to my tooth. Tim gave me a contact phone number in case I had any problems and rang a few days later to ask how I was. Apart from some very slight discomfort and bruising, I was absolutely fine.
After follow-up appointments with Tim and my own dentist, the treatment has been successful and I still have my tooth.
I honestly cannot praise Tim and his team highly enough for their efficiency, kindness and professionalism."

"Having suffered a long time with severe dental pain whilst waiting for an Apicectomy to be done, I could not wait any more long months to go by before reaching the top of the hospital waiting list. Other dental problems requiring me to have extensive use of antibiotics all contributed to me feeling physically run down and emotionally I had had enough.
I knew I needed to accept more had to be done but facing it was difficult. I did some research and talked to a lot of people and found the Bath Oral Surgery Clinic where I had a consultation and assessment with Tim Milton. At first I said I did not want to have any sedation but previous dental work experience had at times been traumatic for me which had left me in that frustrating situation of wanting to get it over with as little memory of the experience as possible, yet still be in control. This seemingly impossible desire became possible very quickly after meeting Tim.
Talking things through together, exploring possibilities and agreeing how things would be done I was able to feel in control and perhaps more importantly felt very confident that if Tim found anything unexpected he would deal with it in a way I would be happy with. Having already had 10 months of extensive treatment for a number of dental abscesses and a complicated extraction where the sinus had become perforated this was a big step for me.
I decided I would have the sedation and on reflection I can see that this was an excellent decision to have made. The previous dental problems I had experienced and the length of time I had been waiting for surgery all contributed to rather more infection being found during the procedure. Tim dealt with all of this and although a longer procedure than expected, for me it was over as it began. If I had been asked how long it had taken I would have said a few minutes, I was not stressed by it and I am sure this helped with the recovery period in the weeks that followed. During this time Tim kept in contact and I knew he was on the end of a phone if I needed him. I did call him a couple of times and his patient, caring and professional manner quickly sorted things out for me.
If you have had a difficult time in the past with dental work or need something done that is not a routine procedure for a dental practice to do I would recommend you have a consultation with Tim Milton, it will be time well spent."

"The thought of having another operation on my teeth was not a happy one since the last operation (not performed at the clinic!) had been complicated and painful. However, everyone at the clinic was so friendly and helpful, I was very reassured and indeed I had absolutely no need to worry. I have practically no memory of the operation, which was quite long, and there was no pain at all at the time. Though slightly painful in the few days following, I spoke to Tim several
times on the phone with queries (often silly) and he was always very helpful and patient. Sedation is a great route to take and not just for nervous patients. I could not have asked for better care at the clinic and can't recommend it highly enough!"

"I have always been a very nervous dental patient to say the least and on learning that I had to have two teeth removed was extremely apprehensive. However, I couldn't have had better treatment. I was kept informed of every detail of the procedure and Tim and his nurses were very kind. I had the sedation administered and before I knew it, I had the procedure behind me and I had no memory of anything taking place. I would recommend wholeheartedly this method of treatment; I was given very good aftercare and am extremely happy with every aspect."

"The reason for my referral was one of my upper back teeth which had broken off at gum level. While not usually being a nervous dental patient I have been lucky in not having to undergo any major treatment. Prior to my appointment with you however I have to confess that I was apprehensive to say the least.
However the treatment, level of advice, explanation and reassurance that you provided to me prior and during the procedure set my mind at rest and produced a very relaxed experience.
This excellent provision of detail and care is what has prompted me to write and thank you very much for all that you have done to improve my dental health. My mouth has now healed well, the stitches have dissolved and the pain experienced following the operation was very minimal. Thank you once again."

"I travelled to the clinic to have my lower wisdom teeth removed. I was very nervous as they had been causing me a great deal of pain. On arrival, the team met me at the door and instantly helped me feel more relaxed. I had the sedation administered and the next I knew it was "all done!"
I can honestly say that the whole experience was very professional and caring. Tim rang me during the week following my operation to see how I was. My mouth was sore but not at all how I expected things to be. The swelling went and after a week, I felt 100%! I would recommend Bath Oral Surgery Clinic to anyone wishing to receive outstanding care"

"A note to thank you for your kindness and sympathetic treatment of "Mrs Frightened" on Tuesday. Yes - of course I've had more fun! But you made an unpleasant experience about as good as it could be and totally pain-free for which I really am grateful."
MW (Wiltshire)
"Thank you very much for making such a good and pain-free job of taking out the root of my tooth and for your patience and understanding."

"I would like to write a letter of thanks to all of the surgery staff and share my experience with any other potential "sedation" patients.
Following a routine dental check-up, my dentist made me aware of a wisdom tooth that was becoming decayed. The only option was to remove this wisdom tooth. My relationship with dentists over the years has been good - only ever having one filling. So needless to say, the prospect of having this type of procedure (along with the numerous horror stories we're all told) filled me with dread and worry! My first question was whether it was possible to be put under general anaesthesia for the procedure to which I was told that this was only offered in extreme cases. There was an alternative - intravenous sedation.
I was referred to the clinic by my dentist and within a week I was called to confirm I had an appointment for the consultation and procedure. After a couple of days an information pack was sent through, including an outline of what was involved with the procedure.
On the evening of the appointment I was feeling very anxious about the looming operation. On entering the surgery, I was greeted and calmed and my medical history discussed as well as other checks. I was readied for the sedative to be administered. A tourniquet was applied and (I think) a drip was fitted. After a few minutes I felt myself drift off to another place.
Upon "coming around" I was asked if I felt OK and how long I thought I had been out for - 10 minutes. An hour and 10 minutes actually! I felt fine - a little drowsy and tired but fine and the most important thing was that I had NO RECOLLECTION of the procedure at all."

"As a long-term 'anxious patient', I was very relieved when my understanding dentist suggested referring me to the Clinic, in order to have a rotten wisdom tooth removed. I was still extremely nervous when I had the first consultation but less so when the day came for the actual procedure. I hadn't believed that I would have no memory of the extraction but it's absolutely true.
The whole time I was at the Clinic, I felt I was in very safe hands and that nothing bad would happen to me. All concerned were very friendly and reassuring as well as being highly professional.
Having suffered for many years from an increasingly disabling fear of dental extractions, I can now face the prospect of future such occasions with a much better attitude."

"This is a 'must read' to anyone who is of a nervous disposition when it comes to needing 'more than the norm' dental treatment. Being 48 and having never had any sort of oral anaesthetic injection for any type of dental work (yes even my root canal fillings were done without) I was absolutely distraught when my own dentist informed me that I needed to have a split/infected large lower tooth removed and as I had never had an injection beforehand, I would need to go into hospital for this procedure. After waiting 14 weeks just for a consultation and then being told it would be another 4-6 months before the operation, I decided the pain/infection could not wait this long and started to pursue alternative options. It was then that I discovered that there was a procedure called intravenous sedation and that a local specialist dental surgeon called Tim Milton offered this service at his local clinics. I have to say that I was truly amazed; from enquiry to procedure was just a few days and the level of reassurance, understanding, kindness, professionalism and actual treatment was absolutely excellent. Even the cost was surprisingly reasonable. Hence, I have to leave this message for all to read and cannot thank Tim and his nursing staff enough and would not hesitate in recommending 'The Bath Oral Surgery Clinic' or indeed returning if the need arises. Excellent!"

"Sedation: Oh yes! Every time for a surgical procedure. I was apprehensive, very nervous with a fear of the unknown procedure.
But there is no need. Tim and his nurses are very caring and put you at ease, explaining the procedure. Once the small 'cannula' is placed in the back of your hand, you cannot remember anything until you come round from the effect, feeling calm-relaxed. I'm amazed the way you do feel, it is wonderful and with no after-effects."

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your staff so very much for the help and understanding you gave me during a particularly painful and stressful time recently after having developed an abscess.
Your professionalism, dedication and caring attitude made the whole experience of having an abscessed tooth taken out more bearable. As an extremely terrified patient when it comes to dentists, you made my visit one that I would happily go through again if I needed to. The genuinely caring attitude shown to me made my visit more calming and even relaxing. The information you gave me was totally honest in every way. I found the website very informative and the testimonials from previous patients very helpful. I can honestly say that I have never had such a painful tooth taken out so smoothly and painlessly. I cannot remember anything about the operation and the recovery went so well that I can hardly believe what I went through.
I would not hesitate to refer nervous patients to Bath Oral Surgery Clinic as I have received a genuine service that is above and beyond what I normally have expected. Thank you for restoring my faith in dentists and showing me how easy it is to relax in a highly stressful situation if you learn to put your trust in a true professional."
